Aluminasilicateborosilicate is not a widely standardized chemical name, but a descriptive label used for materials that incorporate both aluminosilicate and borosilicate components within a single phase or composite. In practice, this term may refer to glasses or ceramic-matrix materials whose networks include silicon, aluminum, and boron oxides in varying proportions. Such materials are investigated for the potential to combine the high-temperature stability of aluminosilicates with the low thermal expansion and chemical resistance characteristic of borosilicates.

Chemically, these materials rely on a silicate framework in which silicon-oxygen tetrahedra (SiO4) are connected, with aluminum substituting for some silicon sites as AlO4 units. Boron can form BO3 or BO4 units, introducing borate functionality into the network. Aluminum typically requires charge balancing by cations (such as alkali or alkaline earth ions), while boron can act as a network former or, depending on composition, as a modifier. The resulting structure is a mixed network whose properties are sensitive to the Si/Al/B ratio and the amount of network modifiers present.

Properties of aluminasilicateborosilicate materials are highly tunable. They can exhibit high refractoriness and mechanical strength from the aluminosilicate portion, together with the low thermal expansion and good thermal shock resistance associated with borosilicate networks. However, balancing crystallization tendency and phase separation during cooling can be challenging, requiring careful control of composition and processing.

Synthesis methods include traditional glassmaking routes—melting mixtures of silica, alumina, and boric oxide with suitable fluxes—as well as ceramic processing or sol-gel approaches. Applications may span specialty glasses and glass-ceramics, labware, coatings, and engineered ceramics where tailored thermal and chemical properties are advantageous.
