Altmer

Altmer, commonly known as the High Elves, are a race of elves native to the Summerset Isles, a chain of islands west of Tamriel. They are among the oldest elven peoples in Tamriel and are renowned for their mastery of magic. Physically, Altmer are tall and slender, with refined features, often pale to golden skin, and long, pointed ears. They have long lifespans, frequently living several centuries, which supports the maintenance of long-standing institutions and traditions.

Society and culture: Altmeri society is tightly organized and aristocratic, with a strong emphasis on scholarship, ritual, and hierarchy. The capital Alinor is a center of governance and culture, while institutions such as the Arcane University gather the realm’s most skilled magi. The Altmer prize order, ceremonial propriety, and meticulous cultivation of magical talent. Their culture emphasizes lineage, duty, and the preservation of Altmeri traditions, and they are often depicted as insular and cautious about outside influence.

History and politics: The Altmer formed the Aldmeri Dominion, an alliance with the Bosmer, to advance elven interests across Tamriel. In the Fourth Era, the Thalmor—the Dominion’s ruling faction—gained substantial political power, operating through the Thalmor Embassy and influencing empire policy, including the aftermath of the White-Gold Concordat and debates over Talos worship.

In The Elder Scrolls games, Altmer are a playable race known for strong magical aptitude, high intelligence, and a long perspective shaped by centuries of history. They are frequently portrayed as aristocratic, highly educated, and deeply connected to elven heritage.
