Altituden

Altituden is a fictional sovereign region situated on a high-altitude plateau in the northern highlands. It encompasses rugged terrain, glacial valleys, and scattered alpine settlements, with elevations mainly between 1,800 and 3,100 meters above sea level. The capital and cultural center is Valencrest; other notable towns include Nordhavn and Lumen Pass.

Historically, Altituden emerged from a network of mountain communes that cooperated to control cross-border trade routes. In the modern era, it established a constitutional framework and a system of regional autonomy. The government operates as a parliamentary republic, with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government, while a regional council oversees policy areas such as land use, water resources, and education. The legal system blends civil codes with customary law recognized in local affairs.

Economic activity centers on sustainable hydroelectric power, alpine tourism, and high-value agriculture—potatoes, barley, and forage crops. Small-scale crafts, including woodwork and textile weaving, support local employment and exports. The population is small and multilingual, with Altitudenic as the official language and several minority languages spoken in rural communities.

Altituden maintains limited but active international ties and participates in regional environmental initiatives. Infrastructure emphasizes reliable winter access, efficient water management, and renewable energy integration, while educational institutions promote climate resilience and mountain science.
