Aloitusmaksu

Aloitusmaksu is a one-time fee charged by a service provider at the start of a contract or service to cover initial setup, administration, or acquisition costs. It is paid once and is separate from recurring charges such as monthly fees or usage-based costs. The amount can be a fixed sum or, less commonly, a percentage of the contract value. In many cases the fee may be disclosed in the contract, price list, or terms of service, and some promotions include waivers or credits for the aloitusmaksu.

The use of aloitusmaksu is common in several sectors. In telecommunications, it can appear as an activation or installation fee for mobile or broadband services. In financial services, it may be charged as an account opening or card issuance fee. Other examples include gym or club enrollment fees, and onboarding or setup charges for certain home services or software subscriptions.

From a consumer perspective, aloitusmaksu contributes to the first-term cost of a service, which can obscure the true price if not clearly disclosed. It is therefore important to check whether the fee applies, how it is calculated, and whether there are promotions or waivers. When comparing offers, customers can consider the total cost over a representative period (including the aloitusmaksu) and look for providers that advertise no such fee or offer a discount to offset it.
