Alloyinfused

Alloyinfused is a descriptor used in materials science and marketing to refer to metals and alloys that have been engineered by infusing additional alloying elements into a base alloy to tailor properties. The goal is to create materials with a controlled distribution of alloying elements—either as a surface layer, a gradient, or a homogeneous modification—without changing the core identity of the base metal.

Infusion can be achieved through diffusion-based processes such as carburizing, nitriding, or interstitial diffusion, often at elevated temperatures to drive alloying elements into the substrate. It can also be accomplished via surface engineering techniques like diffusion bonding, laser-assisted infusion, or molten-salt infusion, and in additive manufacturing by co-processing powders or in-situ alloying during deposition.

Typical benefits include improved hardness and wear resistance, enhanced high-temperature stability, and better corrosion resistance. Gradient or surface-infused layers can reduce stress concentrations and improve adhesion between dissimilar materials.

Applications include aerospace turbines, industrial tooling, automotive components, and biomedical implants with hardened surfaces. Limitations include production cost, diffusion depth control, potential brittleness from certain phases, and compatibility with base alloys.

The term alloyinfused is not standardized in the literature and may be used differently by researchers and vendors to describe similar surface or bulk modifications.
