Allergiamärkningens

Allergimärkning is a term commonly used in Sweden referring to the labeling of products that indicate the presence of specific allergens. This labeling is a legal requirement for food products sold within the European Union, including Sweden, to protect consumers with allergies or intolerances. The purpose is to clearly communicate potential risks associated with consuming certain ingredients.

The labeling requirements are standardized and aim to make it easier for individuals to identify and avoid ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. Common allergens that must be declared include cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame seeds, sulfur dioxide and sulfites, lupin, and mollusks. These allergens must be clearly stated in the ingredient list, often highlighted in a distinct way such as bold text or a different color, though the exact presentation can vary.

Beyond food, the concept of allergen labeling can extend to other product categories, though the regulatory framework is most stringent for food. For instance, cosmetics and textiles may also carry warnings or ingredient lists that allow consumers to identify potential allergens, though these are not always governed by the same mandatory allergen declaration rules as food. The overarching goal of allergimärkning is consumer safety and informed choice, especially for vulnerable populations.
