Alaptörvényhez

Alaptörvényhez is a Hungarian phrase meaning "to the Fundamental Law" or "in accordance with the Fundamental Law." It is formed from the noun Alaptörvény (Fundamental Law or Constitution) combined with the directional suffix -hoz, which marks movement toward or alignment with something. In legal and administrative Hungarian, phrases containing Alaptörvényhez are used to describe actions, obligations, or standards that must conform to the constitution, or to reference a relation to the constitution, for example “az Alaptörvényhez igazodó joggyakorlat” (practice in line with the Fundamental Law) or “az Alaptörvényhez kapcsolódó jogszabályok” (laws related to the Fundamental Law).

The contemporary Hungarian constitution, commonly referred to as the Alaptörvény, was adopted in 2011 and entered into force in 2012. It sets the framework for government powers, the protection of basic rights, and Hungary's position as a member of the European Union. Any new legislation or constitutional amendments must be interpreted as conforming to the Alaptörvény; disputes are resolved by courts according to the Fundamental Law and internal constitutional provisions.
