Aksonin
Aksonin is a term used in Finnish neuroscience to refer to the axon, the long projection of a neuron that conducts electrical impulses away from the cell body. In standard Finnish, the noun for the structure is aksoni, while aksonin is the genitive form used to indicate possession or association, as in “aksonin johtama signaali” (the signal conducted by the axon). The capitalized form Aksonin, when seen, is typically used only as a proper name in titles or headings rather than as a distinct biological concept.
Structure and location. An axon extends from the neuron's cell body, often arising from the axon hillock,
Function and conduction. The primary role of the axon is to transmit action potentials from the cell
Transport and metabolism. Axonal transport moves organelles, proteins, and signaling molecules along microtubules, using motor proteins
Clinical relevance. Damage or degeneration of axons—axonopathy—can disrupt neural signaling and is involved in various neurological
