Akses

Akses is an Indonesian term that denotes the opportunity, permission, or means to enter, use, or benefit from something. It can refer to physical entry as well as access to information, networks, services, or spaces.

The word is a loanword from English access, with its Indonesian usage dating to the 20th century and now widely used in many domains, including technology, infrastructure, and public services. It is often paired with other terms to specify the type of entry or permission being described.

Akses can describe several contexts. Physical access concerns the right or ability to enter a place or facility, such as access to a building or restricted area. Information and data access refer to permissions to view, retrieve, or manipulate information, common in information technology and data governance. Digital access covers connectivity to networks and devices, including internet access and mobile access, and is a central topic in discussions of the digital divide and service design.

Linguistically, akses functions primarily as a noun, while the related verb is mengakses (to access). Common compounds include kontrol akses (access control), akses publik (public access), and aksesibilitas (accessibility). In Indonesian usage, aksesilah is less common; instead, phrases typically use akses dengan preposisi ke, such as akses ke informasi.

In policy and planning, access is a key metric for evaluating service delivery, infrastructure, and equity. The term also intersects with design for accessibility, ensuring that facilities, digital services, and information are usable by a broad range of people, including those with disabilities.
