Ajasünkroniseerimine, also known as time synchronization, is the process of ensuring that clocks on different computing systems are set to the same time. The most common protocol for time synchronization is the Network Time Protocol (NTP). NTP works by exchanging time information between a client and one or more time servers. Another related protocol is the Precision Time Protocol (PTP), which is designed for higher accuracy, often used in industrial automation and financial trading systems where microsecond-level precision is required. PTP typically operates on local area networks and uses specialized hardware for more accurate timestamping.

Challenges in time synchronization include network delays, clock drift (the tendency of a clock to run faster or slower than the true time), and the accuracy of the reference time source. Sophisticated algorithms are employed within these protocols to mitigate these issues and achieve the desired level of accuracy. Maintaining synchronized time across a network is fundamental for reliable operation and accurate data analysis.
