Agnostidae
Agnostidae is a family of extinct trilobites belonging to the order Agnostida. These small arthropods are characterized by their reduced number of segments and the complete absence of a visual system, hence their name, derived from the Greek "agnostos" meaning "unknown" or "ignorant." Agnostid trilobites are known for their diminutiveness, with most specimens measuring less than 5 millimeters in length. They also exhibit a distinctive cephalon (head shield) and pygidium (tail shield) that are remarkably similar in size and shape, a feature known as effacement or isopygy. This unusual morphology suggests a specialized lifestyle, possibly pelagic or benthic, where a well-developed visual system was not necessary.
Fossils of Agnostidae are widespread globally, appearing in marine sedimentary rocks from the Cambrian to the
