Aeroportet

Aeroportet is the primary international airport serving the capital region of Nordmark, located in the municipality of Vestergrind, roughly 18 kilometers north of the capital city Havn. It is operated by the Nordmark Airports Authority and serves as a hub for the national carrier NordAir as well as several international airlines.

History and development

Construction began in 1988 on reclaimed land along the Østerfjord coast, and Aeroportet opened in 1992 with a single terminal and two runways. A second terminal was added in 2002, followed by a major expansion from 2010 to 2013 that increased annual capacity. In 2016 a new long-haul concourse was inaugurated to accommodate growing international traffic.

Facilities and operations

The airport comprises Terminal 1 for domestic and European flights and Terminal 2 for international and long-haul services, connected by a transit corridor. It offers cargo facilities, a general aviation area, and passenger amenities including lounges, dining options, duty-free shops, and business services. Runways are 12R/30L and 12L/30R, both asphalt, with lengths of approximately 3,000 and 3,600 meters respectively. The control tower stands near the central complex.

Ground transportation

A rail link to Havn Central Station opened in 2005, supplemented by a bus rapid transit line and an accompanying ring road. Car parking and a hotel adjacent to Terminal 2 provide convenient access for travelers and visitors.

Statistics and governance

In 2023 Aeroportet handled about 13.2 million passengers and 210,000 tonnes of cargo. The airport adheres to international safety and environmental standards and is overseen by the Nordmark Transport Authority.
