Aechmophorus
Aechmophorus is a genus of grebes, which are diving birds belonging to the order Podicipediformes. The genus currently contains two recognized species, the Western Grebe (Aechmophorus occidentalis) and the Clark's Grebe (Aechmophorus clarkii). These two species are very similar in appearance and were historically considered conspecific, meaning they were classified as a single species. Distinguishing between them can be challenging, especially in non-breeding plumage, but key differences exist in bill color, the extent of white on the face, and breeding plumage characteristics.
