Adópolitikát

Adópolitikát, the Hungarian term for tax policy, refers to the set of laws, regulations, and guidelines that govern the assessment, collection, and use of taxes within Hungary. It is formulated by the Ministry of Finance in accordance with constitutional provisions and EU regulations, and it aims to balance fiscal responsibility, economic growth, and social equity. The policy framework outlines the types of taxes, such as income tax, corporate tax, value added tax (VAT), property taxes, and capital gains tax, and sets the rates, thresholds, and any exemptions or deductions. Moreover, adópolitikát includes measures to prevent tax evasion and avoidance, improve collection efficiency, and ensure compliance through enforcement and audit mechanisms. In recent years, significant reforms have simplified the tax structure, reduced rates on certain categories while expanding the base, and introduced incentives for investment and entrepreneurship. The overarching objectives are to secure adequate public revenue, promote fairness by progressive taxation on higher incomes, and stimulate economic competitiveness. The policy is regularly reviewed and adjusted to reflect changing economic conditions, demographic shifts, and international obligations, especially those arising from Hungary’s dual membership in the European Union and in global tax standards agreements.
