The adductor longus muscle originates from the pubic bone and the inferior pubic ramus, and inserts into the line aspera of the femur. It is a fusiform muscle, meaning it is roughly quadrilateral in shape, with its fibers oriented in a specific direction.

The primary function of the adductor longus muscle is to adduct the thigh, which means it helps bring the leg towards the midline of the body. It also assists in flexion and medial rotation of the hip joint. Additionally, the adductor longus muscle helps to stabilize the knee by contributing to the medial stability of the knee joint.

Injury or strain to the adductor longus muscle is relatively common, particularly among athletes who participate in high-intensity sports that require rapid changes of direction, such as soccer or hockey. Strains to the muscle can range from mild to severe and are often treated with rest, physical therapy, and pain management.
