Acetilálásában refers to the process of acetylation in Hungarian. Acetylation is a fundamental chemical reaction in organic chemistry where an acetyl group (CH3CO-) is introduced into a molecule. This typically involves the transfer of an acetyl group from one molecule to another. The most common acetylating agents are acetic anhydride and acetyl chloride.

In biological systems, acetylation plays a crucial role in various cellular processes. For instance, acetylation of proteins, particularly histones, is a key mechanism for regulating gene expression. Histone acetylation generally leads to a more relaxed chromatin structure, making DNA more accessible to transcription factors and promoting gene transcription. Conversely, histone deacetylation compacts chromatin and represses gene expression. This post-translational modification is reversible and is mediated by enzymes called histone acetyltransferases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs).

Beyond histones, other proteins can also undergo acetylation, affecting their activity, stability, localization, and interactions with other molecules. For example, acetylation of enzymes can alter their catalytic efficiency, while acetylation of signaling proteins can influence signal transduction pathways.
