Acclaimation is a term that refers to the act of receiving public praise, approval, or recognition. The word itself derives from the Latin "acclamatio," meaning "a shouting to," "a calling to," or "an applause." Historically, acclamation was used in ancient Rome as a method of electing officials. The assembled people would shout their approval of a candidate, and if the acclamation was loud and unanimous enough, the election would proceed without a formal vote. This practice highlighted the collective endorsement and public acceptance of a chosen individual.

In contemporary usage, acclamation generally denotes widespread approval and admiration.
