AUCarvojen

AUCarvojen is a multi-stakeholder international cooperative focused on advancing sustainable automotive technology and policy. It acts as a platform for researchers, automotive manufacturers, policymakers, and civil society to collaborate on autonomous mobility, electric propulsion, and transport decarbonization. Headquartered in Geneva, the organization was established in 2020 to coordinate cross-border research and standardization efforts.

Membership includes over 60 institutions across Europe, North America, and Asia, reflecting a broad array of academic, industry, and public-sector partners. The cooperative aims to balance technical innovation with practical deployment, ensuring that new technologies align with public interests and regulatory realities.

Its activities include joint research programs, data-sharing frameworks, and coordination of pilot deployments in urban testbeds. It also issues guidelines and reports on safety, cybersecurity, and ethical considerations for autonomous vehicles, with an emphasis on transparency and reproducibility of findings.

Governance comprises a rotating chair, a Board of Directors, and a Scientific Council, supported by regional chapters and a professional staff. Funding comes from member contributions, public grants, and industry sponsorship, which together sustain programmatic research and outreach activities.

Notable initiatives include the AUCarvojen Global EV Standards to harmonize charging interfaces, the Urban Mobility Data Exchange to enable city-level data sharing, and a Safe Autonomy Certification Program to assess compliance with safety criteria. The consortium is recognized as a neutral forum for interoperability and policy alignment, though it faces challenges in reconciling diverse regulatory regimes and stakeholder interests.
