ACdriven

ACdriven refers to a system or device powered by alternating current (AC). In electrical engineering and electronics, AC is a type of electrical current that periodically reverses direction. This is in contrast to direct current (DC), where the flow of charge is only in one direction. Many household appliances, industrial machinery, and power grids operate on AC power.

The term ACdriven is often used to distinguish such systems from those that are DCdriven, which utilize direct current. For example, a motor can be ACdriven or DCdriven, each with different characteristics and applications. AC motors are commonly found in pumps, fans, and compressors due to their robustness and ability to be easily controlled in speed with appropriate circuitry. DC motors, on the other hand, are often preferred in applications requiring precise speed control or high starting torque, such as in electric vehicles or robotics.

The generation of AC power is typically done by alternators, which are part of power plants. This AC power is then transmitted over long distances through high-voltage lines before being stepped down to lower voltages for use in homes and businesses. The ability to easily transform AC voltage levels using transformers is a significant advantage for power distribution. Therefore, many devices are designed to operate directly from the AC mains supply, making them ACdriven.
