A330

The Airbus A330 is a wide-body twinjet airliner built by Airbus. Developed in parallel with the A340, it was designed to provide long-range intercontinental service with two engines to reduce maintenance and fuel costs. The A330 entered commercial service in 1994 and has since become a staple of modern long-haul air travel, valued for versatility and efficiency.

Design and systems: The A330 uses a wide fuselage and a high-efficiency wing, powered by two engines. It employs a modern flight deck and a fly-by-wire control system. At launch it was offered with several engine options from major manufacturers, and shares core systems with the A340 to streamline production and maintenance.

Variants: Civil variants include the A330-200, a longer-range version, and the A330-300, which emphasizes capacity. The A330-200F is a dedicated freighter. The A330neo family, introduced later, comprises the A330-800neo and A330-900neo with new engines (Rolls-Royce Trent 7000) and redesigned wings for significantly better fuel efficiency.

Military and other: The A330 MRTT is the military tanker/transport variant, equipped for air-to-air refueling and strategic lift. Some airframes have been adapted for special missions and cargo roles, underscoring the platform's versatility.

Operational impact: The A330 is in widespread service with dozens of operators around the world, serving many long-range routes. Its balance of range, capacity, and operating costs has made it a durable choice for both airlines and governments.
