The term "8K" is derived from the horizontal pixel resolution of approximately 7,680 pixels, which, when combined with a vertical resolution of 4,320 pixels, results in a total of around 33.2 million pixels per frame. This resolution is part of the Ultra High Definition (UHD) category, which also includes 4K and higher standards.

The 8K format was initially developed for professional broadcasting and large-screen displays, such as those found in theaters, corporate settings, and high-end home entertainment systems. It aims to provide an even more immersive viewing experience by delivering finer detail, smoother motion, and a more lifelike image compared to lower resolutions.
