7000er

7000er (often called seven-thousanders in English) denotes mountains with summits between 7,000 and 7,999 meters above sea level. The label is used by mountaineers, geographers and in popular literature to group high-altitude peaks that fall below the 8,000-meter "eight-thousanders" but still present extreme altitude and technical challenges.

These peaks are concentrated in major Central and South Asian ranges, including the Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir, Tien Shan and Hindu Kush. Notable examples include Annapurna II (7,937 m), Gasherbrum III (7,952 m), Masherbrum (7,821 m), Muztagh Ata (7,546 m) and Lenin Peak / Ibn Sina Peak (7,134 m). Exact counts of 7000ers vary by source because definitions differ over whether subsidiary summits are treated as separate mountains.

Classification commonly depends on topographic criteria such as prominence and isolation; many lists adopt a minimum prominence (for example 300–500 meters) to identify independent peaks. Because of differing criteria, catalogs of 7000-meter peaks can disagree on which summits qualify.

For climbers, 7000ers are important objectives for technical development, acclimatization and prestige. They can require advanced alpine skills, fixed ropes, glacier travel and high-altitude logistics, and remain dangerous due to altitude sickness, severe weather and objective hazards. While they attract less public attention than eight-thousanders, many 7000-meter mountains are notable for remoteness, technical difficulty or limited number of ascents.
