However, the 1440x1080 resolution itself implies a stretched or anamorphic widescreen presentation within a 4:3 frame.

Historically, this resolution was used in high-definition television broadcasts, such as the early days of HDTV, to achieve a widescreen look on displays that might otherwise have been limited to a 4:3 aspect ratio. This was achieved by digitally stretching the image. In modern usage, 1440x1080 is less common for primary display resolutions compared to true widescreen formats like 1920x1080 (1080p) or 2560x1440 (1440p).

It is important to distinguish 1440x1080 from 1920x1080. While both have 1080 vertical lines, 1920x1080 has a wider horizontal pixel count, resulting in a standard 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
