05W
05W was a tropical cyclone that formed in the western Pacific Ocean during the 2023 typhoon season. The storm originated from a tropical depression that developed on May 15, 2023, about 1,000 kilometers east of the Philippines. The system gradually intensified and was named 05W by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) the following day. The storm tracked generally westward, paralleling the Philippines, before turning northward and making landfall in southern China on May 20. 05W brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to the affected areas, causing localized flooding and power outages. The storm weakened rapidly after landfall and dissipated over land on May 21. The name 05W was not retired and will be used again in the 2027 typhoon season.
