Üleminekustsaktsiooni

Üleminekustsaktsiooni, often translated as transitional justice, refers to the processes and measures undertaken by societies emerging from periods of conflict, authoritarianism, or widespread human rights abuses. Its primary aim is to address past wrongs, promote reconciliation, and establish accountability in order to build a more just and stable future. These measures can encompass a range of approaches, including criminal prosecutions of perpetrators, truth commissions that investigate and document past abuses, reparations for victims, and institutional reforms designed to prevent recurrence.

The concept of transitional justice is not monolithic. Different societies choose different combinations of mechanisms depending on their specific historical context, cultural norms, and political realities. For example, some countries may prioritize criminal accountability, while others may focus on truth-telling and acknowledging the suffering of victims. The ultimate goal is to strike a balance between justice for victims, accountability for perpetrators, and the promotion of lasting peace and democratic governance. It acknowledges that a complete absence of addressing past abuses can hinder societal healing and perpetuate cycles of violence.
