Élelmezésbiztonság, often translated as food security, refers to the state where all people, at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. This concept is multidimensional, encompassing availability, access, utilization, and stability of food.

Food availability pertains to the physical presence of adequate quantities of food through domestic production, imports, or food aid. Food access, on the other hand, considers whether individuals and households have sufficient resources, such as income or land, to obtain appropriate foods for a nutritious diet. Utilization relates to the body's ability to make use of the nutrients in food, which is influenced by factors like food safety, sanitation, healthcare, and dietary diversity. Finally, food stability ensures that these three dimensions are maintained over time, without being jeopardized by sudden shocks like economic crises, conflicts, or natural disasters.

Ensuring élelmezésbiztonság is a critical global challenge. Factors contributing to food insecurity include poverty, climate change, inadequate agricultural practices, political instability, and unequal distribution of resources. Addressing élelmezésbiztonság requires a comprehensive approach involving sustainable agricultural development, improved infrastructure, robust social safety nets, and policies that promote equitable access to food and resources.
