Ülemiste is a district in Tallinn, Estonia, located southeast of the city center. It functions as a major commercial and transportation hub for the capital region.

The area takes its name from Lake Ülemiste, the largest lake within Tallinn's boundaries. Local folklore tells of the Ülemiste Elder, a mythical guardian who allegedly asks visitors "Is Tallinn finished yet?" Answering "yes" is said to trigger a flood from the lake.

Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport occupies a central position in Ülemiste, serving as Estonia's primary international gateway. The airport processed more than 3.8 million passengers in 2019.

Ülemiste City represents the Baltic states' largest business campus, accommodating over 500 companies and approximately 15,000 employees. This development has converted former industrial property into contemporary office spaces, retail establishments, and residential units, creating a lively mixed-use zone.

The Ülemiste shopping centre ranks among Estonia's most extensive retail destinations, drawing customers from throughout the region with its collection of over 220 shops and services.

Transportation infrastructure is comprehensive, featuring the Tallinn-Tartu rail line, a principal bus terminal, and tram links to downtown. The district is also designated as a crucial station for the planned Rail Baltica high-speed line, which will connect Tallinn to Warsaw through Riga and Kaunas.

Once predominantly industrial, Ülemiste has transformed into a dynamic area that integrates business, commerce, and housing while preserving its essential role in Tallinn's metropolitan framework.
