ørken is a Danish word meaning desert. Deserts are arid or semi-arid regions characterized by extremely low rainfall, high temperatures, and sparse vegetation. These conditions make them one of the most challenging environments for life on Earth.

Plants often have deep root systems, waxy leaves, or can store water. Animals may be nocturnal to avoid the heat, have efficient water conservation mechanisms, or rely on dew for hydration.

Human habitation in deserts is often limited and concentrated around oases or sources of water. Historically, desert cultures have developed unique survival strategies, including nomadic lifestyles and specialized agricultural techniques.
