Überweisungsbeleg

An Überweisungsbeleg, or transfer slip, is a document used in Germany and other German-speaking countries to initiate a bank transfer. It serves as a physical instruction from a customer to their bank to move funds from their account to another specified account. Typically, an Überweisungsbeleg contains fields for the sender's account number (Kontonummer), the recipient's account number (Kontonummer des Empfängers), the bank code of the recipient's bank (Bankleitzahl des Empfängers), the amount to be transferred (Betrag), and a purpose of payment (Verwendungszweck).

The sender fills out these details, signs the slip, and submits it to their bank, often at a branch counter or through a deposit box. The bank then processes the transfer based on the information provided. Historically, Überweisungsbelege were the primary method for non-cash payments. However, with the advent of online banking and mobile payment apps, their usage has significantly decreased. Many banks no longer provide physical slips or encourage their customers to use digital alternatives for greater convenience and speed. Despite this shift, some individuals still prefer or require the use of physical slips, particularly for larger or less frequent transactions, or in situations where digital access is limited. The Überweisungsbeleg is a crucial piece of financial documentation, acting as proof of the transfer instruction.
