Überlauffüllung

Überlauffüllung, a German term often translated as overflow filling or overfill, is a filling method used in the packaging industry. This technique is particularly well-suited for liquids that require a precise fill level, often seen in products like wine, spirits, and certain cleaning agents. In an overflow filling system, the container is filled to a predetermined level by allowing the liquid to flow until it reaches an overflow tube or nozzle. Excess liquid is then drained back into the reservoir, ensuring a consistent fill height across all containers.

The primary advantage of Überlauffüllung is its ability to achieve a uniform fill line, which is often a cosmetic requirement for aesthetic appeal or brand consistency. It is effective for both thin and moderately viscous liquids. The process is generally non-contact with the product once it enters the container, which can be beneficial for sterile or sensitive products. However, this method can lead to foaming in some liquids, and it is not ideal for highly viscous products or those containing solid particles that could obstruct the overflow mechanism. The speed of the filling process is moderate, and the accuracy is dependent on the viscosity of the liquid and the design of the overflow system.
