ÖrvarOddr is a legendary hero from Old Norse sagas, most notably appearing in the anonymous Þáttr af Örvar-Odds (The Saga of Örvar-Oddr). His story is a classic example of a heroic saga, blending elements of adventure, fate, and supernatural encounters.

The saga recounts ÖrvarOddr's life from his youth as a skilled warrior and archer, earning his epithet "Arrow-Oddr" due to his incredible accuracy. His life is marked by a prophecy foretelling his death from the jawbone of a specific ox belonging to his own horse, Fylir. Determined to avoid this fated demise, ÖrvarOddr embarks on numerous journeys and battles, seeking to outrun his destiny.

His adventures often involve fighting giants, pirates, and other formidable foes. He travels to distant lands, including Norway, Sweden, and even the lands of the Finns and Karelians. Throughout his travels, he faces significant challenges and demonstrates immense bravery and martial prowess. He is known for his loyalty to his kinsmen and his unwavering courage in the face of overwhelming odds.

Despite his efforts to evade the prophecy, ÖrvarOddr's fate eventually catches up to him. In his old age, while hunting with his horse, he encounters an ox. While investigating the ox, he stumbles and falls, hitting his head on the jawbone of the animal, which turns out to be the very one foretold in the prophecy. Thus, his death fulfills the prophecy, underscoring the inescapable nature of fate in Norse mythology. The Saga of Örvar-Oddr is preserved in medieval Icelandic manuscripts.
