Örvar-Oddr is a legendary hero from Old Norse sagas, most prominently featured in the Þáttr af Þórði hreðu (The Tale of Thord the Bold) and the Saga of Örvar-Oddr (Örvar-Odds saga). His name translates to "Arrow-Oddr" or "Unusual-Oddr," hinting at his extraordinary nature and martial prowess.

The saga recounts Oddr's life, beginning with his unusual birth and a prophecy foretelling his death from his own horse's death. To avert this fate, Oddr kills the horse and lives a long life, only to eventually be killed by his horse's carcass, fulfilling the prophecy in an ironic twist. This narrative element is a classic example of Norse fatalism.
