Öndunarvegum

Öndunarvegum, often translated as "airways" or "respiratory passages" in English, refers to the system of organs within the body responsible for taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide. This crucial biological function is essential for sustaining life. The öndunarvegum comprises a series of interconnected structures, beginning with the nose and mouth, which serve as the entry points for air. From there, air travels down the pharynx and larynx, commonly known as the throat and voice box, respectively.

The trachea, or windpipe, is the main passageway that extends down into the chest. It then branches into two bronchi, one for each lung. Within the lungs, these bronchi further subdivide into progressively smaller tubes called bronchioles. The smallest of these lead to tiny air sacs known as alveoli. It is within the alveoli that the vital exchange of gases takes place, where oxygen from inhaled air passes into the bloodstream, and carbon dioxide from the blood is released to be exhaled. The entire process is coordinated by the diaphragm and other muscles of respiration, allowing for the rhythmic inhalation and exhalation that maintains oxygen levels in the body. Conditions affecting the öndunarvegum can range from minor irritations like the common cold to more serious diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
