Õhkkonveierid, also known as pneumatic conveyors, are systems used for transporting bulk materials through a sealed pipe or duct using a stream of air or gas. They are a common method for moving powders, granules, and other finely divided solids in various industries, including agriculture, food processing, chemical manufacturing, and mining.

The principle of operation involves creating a pressure differential. In a dilute phase system, material is conveyed at low density and high velocity, typically using a blower to entrain the material and push it through the pipeline. In a dense phase system, material is conveyed at high density and low velocity, often using compressed air pulses to move the material more gently, which is beneficial for fragile or abrasive substances.

Õhkkonveierid offer several advantages. They are enclosed systems, which helps to prevent dust emissions, contamination of the product, and exposure of workers to hazardous materials. They are also flexible in design, capable of conveying materials over long distances and around obstacles. Maintenance is generally straightforward, and the systems can be automated.

However, there are also potential drawbacks. The energy consumption can be significant, especially for dilute phase systems. Abrasion of the pipeline can occur with certain materials, requiring wear-resistant components. Blockages can also be an issue if the system is not designed or operated correctly. The choice between dilute and dense phase, as well as the specific design parameters, depends heavily on the properties of the material being conveyed and the required throughput.
