Çoruhs

The Çoruh River, known in ancient times as the Acampsis, is a significant river in northeastern Turkey. It originates in the eastern Anatolian highlands, near the city of Bayburt, and flows generally northwards. The river traverses a rugged and mountainous terrain, carving out a deep valley as it makes its way through the Pontic Mountains. Its course is characterized by numerous rapids and a swift current, making it a popular destination for white-water rafting and kayaking. The Çoruh River eventually crosses into Georgia and empties into the Black Sea, forming a delta.

The river basin is an important ecological region, supporting diverse flora and fauna. Historically, the Çoruh valley has been a route for migration and trade. The river's powerful flow has also been harnessed for hydroelectric power through the construction of several dams, notably the Deriner Dam and the Yusufeli Dam, which have significantly altered the river's natural flow and landscape in certain sections. The construction of these dams has also led to the submersion of historical sites and villages, prompting relocation efforts. The Çoruh is one of the fastest-flowing rivers in Turkey.
