Ångventilation

Ångventilation, also known as nasal ventilation, is a technique used in emergency medical situations to provide oxygen to a patient who is not breathing adequately. The term "ångventilation" is derived from the Swedish words "ång" meaning steam, and "ventilation" referring to the process of breathing. The technique involves the use of a specialized device that generates a humidified oxygen mist, which is then inhaled through the nostrils of the patient.

The primary purpose of ångventilation is to deliver oxygen directly to the lungs, bypassing the upper airway. This can be particularly useful in cases where the patient's airway is obstructed or compromised, such as in cases of severe asthma, anaphylaxis, or certain types of poisoning. The technique is often used in conjunction with other emergency medical interventions, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

The device used for ångventilation typically consists of a mask that fits over the patient's nose and mouth, a reservoir of oxygen, and a mechanism to generate the humidified mist. The mist is delivered at a controlled rate and pressure, ensuring that the patient receives the appropriate amount of oxygen without causing discomfort or injury.

While ångventilation can be a life-saving technique, it is important to note that it should only be used by trained medical professionals.
