Ångsedimentering

Ångsedimentering is a geological process and a term used in sedimentology to describe the deposition of fine-grained sediments that have been transported and settled out of a suspension in water vapor or steam. This phenomenon is particularly relevant in environments where high temperatures and moisture are present, such as volcanic regions or areas with geothermal activity.

The process involves the formation of a suspension of particulate matter within steam. As the steam cools or its carrying capacity decreases, the suspended particles, typically very fine silt and clay, lose their energy and begin to settle. This deposition can occur on surfaces within steam vents, fumaroles, or in the surrounding landscape affected by steam plumes. The resulting deposits are often characterized by their fine texture and can form distinct layers.
