Äänynauhaleitteet is a Finnish term that translates to "sound tape loops" or "audio tape loops." This refers to a technique in music and sound art where a short section of magnetic tape is joined end-to-end to create a continuous loop. When played on a tape recorder, this loop repeats indefinitely, creating a repeating sonic phrase or texture.

The concept of tape loops emerged in the mid-20th century with the development of magnetic tape recording technology. Early pioneers like Pierre Schaeffer and his Musique concrète movement explored the creative possibilities of manipulating recorded sounds, including the use of loops. Composers and sound artists used tape loops to generate rhythmic patterns, drone-like textures, and evolving soundscapes.

The length of the tape loop dictates the duration of the repeating segment. Shorter loops create faster repetitions and can be used to build complex rhythmic structures, while longer loops produce slower, more sustained effects.
