Ägypten

Ägypten, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a transcontinental country spanning the northeast corner of Africa and southwest corner of Asia. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south, and Libya to the west. The majority of its estimated 100 million population lives along the fertile Nile River Valley and Delta. Cairo is the capital and largest city.

Ancient Egypt was a powerful civilization that flourished for thousands of years. It is renowned for its monumental architecture, such as the pyramids of Giza and the temples of Luxor and Karnak, as well as its sophisticated writing system (hieroglyphs), religion, and advancements in mathematics and medicine. The country was a major regional power throughout much of its history, influencing neighboring cultures.

Egypt's strategic location at the crossroads of Africa and the Middle East has made it a significant cultural and political entity. The Suez Canal, a vital international waterway connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, is a key feature of its geography and economy. The economy is diverse, with tourism, agriculture, and the Suez Canal revenues being major contributors.

Modern Egypt gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1922. It has played a prominent role in Arab and African affairs, and has been a founding member of the United Nations and the Arab League. The official language is Arabic, and the predominant religion is Islam.
