Zákoníky refers to legal codes or statutes in Czech and Slovak legal systems. These comprehensive collections of laws aim to systematically organize and regulate various aspects of public and private life within a jurisdiction. Historically, the concept of zákoník has evolved, with significant codifications shaping modern legal frameworks.

One of the most influential zákoníky in the region was the Allgemeines bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (ABGB), the Austrian Civil Code of 1811, which heavily influenced subsequent codifications in both Czech and Slovak lands during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, efforts were made to create unified legal codes. The Civil Code of 1950 and later the Civil Code of 1964 represented significant steps towards a socialist legal system, reflecting the political and economic ideologies of the time.

Following the Velvet Revolution and the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, both the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic undertook processes to revise and update their legal systems. This included the development of new Civil Codes, such as the Czech Civil Code of 2012 (Act No. 89/2012 Coll.) and the Slovak Civil Code of 2016. These modern zákoníky are designed to align with European Union law and address contemporary societal needs, covering areas like property law, family law, contract law, and inheritance.
