zirconolite
Zirconolite is a mineral group consisting of calcium zirconium titanium oxide, with the general chemical formula CaZrTi2O7. It is a member of the perovskite group of minerals. Zirconolite is found in a variety of geological settings, including igneous and metamorphic rocks, as well as in some meteorites. It is also known to occur in alkaline igneous rocks and carbonatites.
The mineral was first discovered in 1953 in the Zoutpansberg region of South Africa, hence its name.
Zirconolite is of particular interest to geologists and nuclear scientists because of its stability and ability
