Zenobia, Septimia Zenobia, was a 3rd-century ruler of Palmyra who led the Palmyrene Empire in the eastern Mediterranean. She rose to power as regent for her son, Vaballathus, after the death of her husband Odaenathus, around 267 CE. Zenobia asserted Palmyrene independence from the central Roman authorities and pursued an active foreign policy aimed at expanding Palmyrene control beyond Syria.
