Yksisylinterinen refers to a single-cylinder engine, a type of internal combustion engine that uses one cylinder to perform all four strokes of the combustion cycle: intake, compression, power, and exhaust. This configuration is common in smaller engines due to its simplicity, lower manufacturing cost, and relatively compact size.

Single-cylinder engines are characterized by their distinct firing order, which occurs once every two crankshaft revolutions. This often results in a more noticeable vibration compared to engines with multiple cylinders, as the power pulses are more spaced out and the rotating and reciprocating masses are not as effectively balanced. To mitigate this, some single-cylinder engines incorporate counterweights or balance shafts.
