A wheeltire is the assembled unit of a wheel and tire used on vehicles. The wheel (rim) provides hub mounting and structural rigidity, while the tire supplies traction, cushioning, and load-bearing contact with the road. Together they form the rotating mass that transmits power, braking forces, and steering input.

The wheel element is usually steel or aluminum and includes the hub seating surface, bead seats, and lug holes. The tire consists of the tread, sidewalls, and bead that grip the rim, with a reinforced carcass that carries the load. Most modern tires are tubeless air-filled pneumatic tires.

Construction varies: radial or bias-ply tires, tubed or tubeless designs, and run-flat options. Today, passenger cars predominantly use tubeless radial tires with steel or textile belts.

Sizing and compatibility: wheel size is given in inches by diameter and width; tire size uses a designation such as 205/55 R16. Fit depends on bolt pattern, offset, tire width limits, and manufacturer specifications.

Maintenance and safety: monitor inflation pressure, rotate tires, balance wheels, and ensure proper alignment. Incorrect mounting or mismatched wheels can cause vibrations, handling problems, or tire failure.

History: early wheel-tire assemblies used inner tubes; tubeless tires and standardized rims became common in the mid-20th century, improving safety and efficiency.
