võiksid

Võiksid is an Estonian verb form used in the conditional mood. It is the second-person singular form of the verb võima, which means to be able to. The form expresses hypothetical possibility, a suggestion, or a polite request rather than a definite statement of fact. In everyday Estonian, võiksid is commonly used when the speaker proposes a course of action for the listener.

Võiksid is formed from the stem of võima with the conditional suffix and the second-person singular ending. Related conditional forms include võiksin (I could) and ta võiks (he/she could). For example, sa võiksid tulla means “you could come.”

Võiksid is typically followed by an infinitive to indicate the action the listener might undertake. It can occur in main clauses as a soft suggestion or in subordinate clauses after verbs of thinking or advising. Examples: sa võiksid tulla hommikul (you could come in the morning) and ma arvan, et sa võiksid proovida seda (I think you could try it).

Notes: võiksid is common in informal speech and is preferred when the speaker wants to be polite or tentative. It is distinct from peaksid, which expresses obligation or recommendation rather than possibility.
