Vízállapotok, often translated as states of water, refers to the different physical forms that water can exist in. These are primarily solid, liquid, and gas, each with distinct properties. The most common state is liquid water, which covers most of the Earth's surface and is essential for life. It flows, takes the shape of its container, and has a relatively constant volume.

The solid state of water is known as ice. Ice is formed when water cools to its freezing point, typically 0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit at standard atmospheric pressure. In its solid form, water molecules are arranged in a rigid, crystalline structure, making it less dense than liquid water. This is why ice floats.

The gaseous state of water is called water vapor. Water vapor is formed through evaporation, where liquid water turns into a gas, or sublimation, where ice directly turns into gas. Water vapor is invisible and mixes with the air. It is a crucial component of the atmosphere and plays a vital role in weather patterns, such as cloud formation and precipitation.

The transitions between these states are driven by changes in temperature and pressure. Melting is the transition from solid to liquid, freezing from liquid to solid, vaporization (or boiling) from liquid to gas, condensation from gas to liquid, sublimation from solid to gas, and deposition from gas to solid. These phase changes are fundamental to many natural processes on Earth.
