Víz-koldók, also known as water striders or pond skaters, are a family of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera, specifically the family Gerridae. Their name, "vízkoldók," directly translates to "water beggars" in Hungarian, alluding to their ability to seemingly beg for food from the water's surface.

Víz-koldók possess a unique adaptation that allows them to walk on water. Their legs are covered in hydrophobic hairs, which create a surface tension effect, preventing them from breaking through the water's surface. This allows them to glide effortlessly across the water.
