Vércsoportszükséglet refers to the specific blood type required for a transfusion or donation. Understanding blood types is crucial because of the ABO and Rh (Rhesus) blood group systems. The ABO system categorizes blood into four main types: A, B, AB, and O. The Rh system categorizes blood as either Rh-positive (+) or Rh-negative (-). These factors determine compatibility between donor and recipient.

For blood transfusions, a recipient can only receive blood that is compatible with their own blood type. For example, a person with type A-positive blood can generally receive A-positive, A-negative, O-positive, or O-negative blood. Type AB-positive individuals are considered universal recipients because they can receive blood from any ABO group. Conversely, type O-negative blood is considered the universal donor, as it can be given to individuals of any blood type in emergencies, though it is ideally reserved for those with O-negative blood.

The Rh factor is also important. Rh-negative individuals can develop antibodies against Rh-positive blood if exposed to it, leading to transfusion reactions. Therefore, Rh-negative recipients should ideally receive Rh-negative blood. Pregnant women who are Rh-negative can also face complications if carrying an Rh-positive fetus, a condition managed with Rh immunoglobulin.
