Väärtrioksiidiks, or Vanadium Trioxide in English, is an inorganic chemical compound with the formula V2O3. It is a crystalline solid that typically appears as dark grey or black powder. V2O3 is one of the oxides of vanadium, with vanadium in the +3 oxidation state.

This compound is known for its interesting magnetic and electrical properties. At room temperature, vanadium trioxide is an antiferromagnetic insulator. However, as the temperature increases, it undergoes a phase transition, becoming a paramagnet and a semiconductor. This transition occurs around 150-170 Kelvin (-123 to -103 degrees Celsius). This behavior makes V2O3 a subject of study in condensed matter physics.

Vanadium trioxide can be synthesized through various methods, often involving the reduction of higher vanadium oxides like V2O5. It can also be formed by reacting vanadium metal with oxygen under controlled conditions.

Industrially, V2O3 has found some applications, though it is not as widely used as some other vanadium compounds. It has been explored as a component in catalysts, particularly in processes involving the oxidation of organic compounds. Its semiconductor properties have also led to research into its use in electronic devices and sensors. However, the practical industrial applications are still somewhat limited compared to its scientific interest.
