Color enhancers, known as värivahvistimet in Finnish, are substances or treatments applied to materials to deepen or intensify their existing color. These are commonly used in various applications to achieve a richer, more vibrant appearance.

In the context of natural materials like wood and stone, color enhancers work by penetrating the porous surface and filling microscopic voids. This process reduces the amount of light that is scattered, allowing more light to be absorbed and reflected by the material's pigments. For wood, this can bring out the natural richness of the timber, while for stone, it can deepen the tones of granite, marble, or slate.

The application of värivahvistimet often involves an oil-based or solvent-based solution that is wiped onto the surface and allowed to soak in. Excess product is typically wiped away to prevent a sticky residue. The final appearance can vary depending on the specific product used and the type of material. Some color enhancers are designed to provide a subtle enhancement, while others aim for a dramatic transformation.
